Yet another rant about Odin and Thor and Asgardian taste for discrimination.
Those who haven’t read the script would often wonder why Odin instead of resolving problem with Loki and soothing the youngest son’s temper tantrum conventionally fell into Odinsleep. In is however clearly stated in the script he was already delaying the sleep long enough to have tremors in his hands and overall body fatigue because of one reason only- he knew Thor was not ready to become a king. (again, WHY DID YOU CUT IT OUT?!!!) He appointed Thor anyway because he had no choice. Or did he?
And I’m not talking about Loki- no, he wasn’t ready either - all due Odin’s parenting fail- I’m talking about Frigga. A queen in good health and clear mind. Why would Odin even bother with fear for the throne if he had a wife who could’ve taken care of the realm until their sons were ready? Oh, was it because all Aesir believe a woman can not rule? Just as that a woman can not be a warrior? Seriously?!
Then- Thor’s brilliant line in Avengers that everyone likes so much- “He is adopted.”
If we didn’t know the context of “Thor”, it would have been indeed very funny. But now think- finding out about being adopted was a catalyst and main reason for Loki loosing his shit in the first place- and still is his biggest wound in the heart- and Thor knows about that- and still uses that line. What brotherly love are you talking about? Thor in the same dialog tells Banner to be respectful because he supposedly still thinks of Loki as his brother- and then renounces his relationship almost immediately when faced with possible shame due to Loki’s misbehavior. It is either him being a dim wit, a coward or a liar. i wish Marvel didn’t spoil Thor with that line, because- seriously? there were so many options- like, “yeah, he is a black sheep in the family”, or “yeah, I didn’t say he is good”, etc.
P.s. I totally understand and agree with those people who think Marvel offended people by that line- the reaction might be a bit over the top, but it is essentially right- you can not blame a bad behavior of a person on him being adopted.
Most of bad behavior in adulthood is caused by abuse/ neglect/ psychological trauma in childhood, not being adopted. So yeah, draw conclusions.
Also Loki was considered weak for his magic, cause magic in Asgard is something women practice mostly, “real men” are warriors who do “real battle”. And let’s not even start about the hate/racism against frost giants Loki was raised into.
They screwed him up on so many friggin’ levels it leaves me blinking in astonishment sometimes. The adoption joke bugged me too for the reasons mentioned above.
